Fisher & Paykel Ecosmart GWL11
Date Published: 10/16/08
One of the most efficient top-loading washers, the Fisher & Paykel Ecosmart GWL11 provides top-shelf clothes care much like the leading front-load washers. It uses a similar type agitator and has a comparable large capacity. The biggest difference is that this machine costs substantially less than the $1,000 or so a front loader will run you. Unlike a typical top-loader, this machine employs a programmable motor connected directly to the agitator. There are no belts, pulleys, or gears to replace. A sensor is used to analyze the load, set the wash action and determine the ideal water level. A spin speed of 1000 rpm removes far more water than a typical spin cycle, resulting in greatly reduced drying times. In many cases, this method will eliminate long drying times and the back up of loads waiting to be dried. In the case of delicate fabrics a low spin speed of 300 rpm can be used instead. Unlike some front-loaders, this machine offers a 2-hour soak cycle, allowing stained items the extra time they need for spot removal. Another unusual feature is the delay timer. This allows the user to set the machine to operate 1, 3, or 9 hours later in order to take advantage of off-peak energy hours. Fisher & Paykel have also included a system that resets the spin when the machine is out of balance. Should this reset fail to solve the problem, the machine will shut off and emit a beeping sound, instead of traveling around the laundry room. The soft-touch console has electronic controls that are easy to use and simply wipe clean. There are no dials or knobs to clean around on this machine. This washer has a more durable lid than Fisher & Paykel's previous model. Removable as well as more durable, it comes off for thorough cleaning.
