The First Alert SC07CN is a step forward from early combination CO and smoke detectors. No need to decipher color codes, this unit's voice alarm tells you the location of the unit whether you're dealing with smoke or CO.

In the case of an alert for CO, the unit will also state the CO parts per million (ppm). The voice alarm alternates with an 85 decibel horn blasts. Programming the alarm's location is easy. Simply press the test button until you hear the correct location, such as kitchen. You can also program the alarm's location with an infrared remote control.

Other operations that can be done manually or with the remote include weekly tests for proper operation (the voice alarm will report the highest CO level since the previous test), temporary silencing of the alarm, and silencing low-battery chirp (for up to 8 hours).

We like the idiot-proof features of the dual-purpose First Alert SC07CN alarm and feel that the remote control, while it may seem unnecessary, will promote more regular testing of the unit.
