The Soft Grip Sil-Pin TM Silicone Rolling Pin by Fiesta Products will quickly become one of your favorite baking tools for preparing pastry or cookie dough and even shortbread or biscuit dough.
Available in a rainbow of colors, the Sil-Pin is a revolutionary silicone rolling pin, which quickly and effortlessly rolls dough out to a smooth, even thickness. The pin has a full 11-inch-wide surface to cover a larger area with each pass. We especially liked the non-slip contoured handles, which connect to the metal rod that runs through the center of the rolling pin. Stainless-steel ball bearings ensure a smooth, gliding effect so almost no effort is involved in rolling.
The silicone surface of the rolling pin is naturally stick resistant and won't stick to dough that has been properly chilled and floured. We did encounter a bit of sticking with a wet biscuit dough but the sticking was alleviated by rubbing and/or sprinkling flour over the dough.
Just about the only challenge with the Sil-Pin is cleaning since the pin cannot be immersed or placed under running water. We found the surface stayed relatively clean, however, and wiping with a damp cloth immediately after use did the trick.
