Fedders A6P09S2C air conditioner
Date Published: 5/6/08
The Fedders A6P09S2C portable room air conditioner can cool a standard room up to about 400 square feet. Output is 9,000 Btu/hr. The unit rates a low Energy Efficiency Rating of 7.9 and is not Energy Star compliant, so it is more expensive to operate than some other models. However, it offers three modes of operation: cooling, dehumidifying and air filtration. It features three cool and three fan speeds in addition to the dehumidify mode.
Though it is portable, the A6P09S2C does have two hoses that need to be run to a nearby window or other port to the exterior. One hose exhausts the hot air and the second draws air in to cool the internal components of the unit. The washable filter has a filter-check indicator light to let you know if it needs service. A charcoal filter also is included to remove odors from the room's air, which is a nice feature. The unit runs relatively quietly, though placing it on a rug will reduce the sound even more. The A6P09S2C may be more expensive than other models, but it also includes a 4,500 Btu heater.
The Fedders A6P09S2C is a well-built portable room air conditioner that's easy to operate. It does require two external hoses (which are included) through a nearby window, but it is a good option for those people who don't want to lift and install/uninstall a window unit every season.
Pros: Quiet, dehumidifier, optional heater
Cons: Requires two hoses to exterior, minimal warranty
