Fanatec Headshot Controller

Fanatec has created the ultimate LAN-party input device with its Headshot Controller mouse set. Spelled "head$h0t," this input device stands out for more reasons than its name.
The Headshot comes packaged in a plastic briefcase that has room for the mouse and all its accessories, which include a sturdy low-friction mouse pad that doubles as a powered USB hub. You'll need to plug it into a wall outlet, but having two spare USB ports on top of your desk proves very handy for USB Flash drives, MP3 players and the like.
However, what will likely catch your eye first is the Headshot's unique crossbar that holds the mouse cable aloft, preventing it from getting in your way during high-intensity gaming. Lights on either side of the mouse pad project up through the plastic crossbar, giving the input device a futuristic feel.
The Headshot mouse itself is a novel input device, with a wide base that keeps your fingers off the mouse pad when you're gliding back and forth. Coin screws on the bottom of the mouse even let you adjust the mouse's width. We're used to having our outside fingers hang loose while gaming, so it took a little while before we were comfortable with our ring and pinky fingers resting on the mouse.
The mouse features a native resolution of 2,000 dpi, and you can adjust it on the fly with plus and minus buttons below the scroll wheel. Fanatec also includes emulator software for programming macros. The Headshot mouse can even function as a pseudo-joystick, with movements simulating joystick movements and the scroll wheel serving as a throttle. It's a clever idea that works better than you might expect.
The lights on the mouse pad and the one glowing through the mouse itself can be personalized via the software, letting you choose your own color and other effects. It adds to the whole ultracool vibe of the Headshot.
The Headshot retails for $100, which isn't a bad price for a package that includes a high-end mouse, mouse pad and powered USB hub. If you're looking for an input device to pair with your cutting-edge LAN party PC, the Fanatec Headshot Controller is as cool as they come.
Pros: Fast-response mouse, unique design, powered USB hub in mouse pad
Cons: Can't use mouse without the entire setup
