Envision EN2028 20-inch LCD monitor
Date Published: 10/2/07
Envision's EN2028 doesn't offer an abundance of features. However, if you're ready to move up to a 20-inch LCD display and your requirements are modest, this is a competent performer at an affordable price.
The EN2028 is lightweight (about 16.5 pounds) and easy to set up. The base is stable and sturdy, although perhaps a little too sturdy, as it can be difficult to adjust. The dual-hinged height adjustment and foldable base allow you to fold up the display for moving, but this makes it more difficult to perform minor tilt and height adjustments. It is possible to tilt the display forward or back or adjust its height to a limited degree, but there are no pivot or swivel options.
The EN2028 has a native resolution of 1,600X1,200, and image quality in digital mode is average to slightly above average. Text is clear, except at smaller font sizes. Color fidelity, contrast and brightness are only average. Whites aren't always as bright and tint-free as they should be, and grays sometimes also display a slight color tint. This display is best suited to general-purpose use, and it is not a good choice for any task where color fidelity and image quality are critical, or for working with small fonts. Despite the relatively quick 12-millisecond pixel response time, we saw noticeable ghosting and blurring in some videos and games, although performance is reasonably good except for the pickiest of gamers and movie fans.
The ultra-thin bezel puts the focus on the screen, making the 20-inch viewable area appear slightly larger than it is. A row of five buttons on the right-front panel controls basic display functions and the easy-to-navigate OSD (on-screen display). The buttons are clearly labeled, which is more than we can say for many competing models. You can adjust some functions, including brightness and horizontal and vertical positioning, without actually accessing the OSD.
The EN2028 strikes a reasonable balance between features and price, proving to be a good but not great LCD display choice for general-purpose use.
