Entertaining Holiday Gifts for Him

Date Published: 11/27/2006

Let's face it, he probably has had it with sweaters, cuff links and robes. This holiday season, just get him something that's entertaining. Books, magazines, CDs, MP3 players, event tickets -- these are the type of gifts and gadgets that he'll want. Face it, boys just wanna have fun.

Magazine Subscriptions

One of the keys to a great gift is to try to find something that the recipient will enjoy all year long. An easy way to accomplish that is to give him a gift like a magazine subscription. Whether it's Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, or something more serious like The New Yorker, a magazine subscription will bring a reminder to him that you care each month.

Books

When the weather outside is nasty or the rush of average life slows down, sometimes there's nothing better than to sit down with a good book. Some of the offerings currently include I Am Legend (Richard Matheson), Marley & Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog (John Grogan), and John Adams (David McCullough).

Movies

Instead of reading the book, why not let him watch the movie? A couple of the popular choices out now are the Star Wars Trilogy and the Adventures of Indiana Jones. Guys also like Westerns and Sci-fi's, but really a nice musical and performing arts video may just do him some good and bring him some culture. He may learn a thing or two!

MP3 Players

While they are called MP3 players after the musical files, these media players play more than just music now. Now they can show pictures and video, as well as having plenty of room for music. The Creative Zen Vision:W is a top-notch media player, and the Apple iPod 5th Generation Update will allow him to buy content on the iTunes store.

Music CDs

If he likes music, you can pick up some great CDs at fabulous prices right about now. Whether its rock or pop hits, country, blues, R&B or jazz -- he will love a great selection of music.

Musical Instruments

Many music fans wish that they could play like their favorite musician. You can encourage that dream by buying him a musical instrument and letting him rock out or play some great jazz on the keyboard. Just be warned that you might have to sit through several not-great versions of some of your not-so-favorite songs, but the joy he is experiencing may all be worth it.

Event Tickets

Instead of getting him something, you may want to opt for an experience. Tickets to sporting events or concerts show him that you want to experience the best that life has to offer with him.

We Are Pilots [Digipak] by Shiny Toy Guns photo
Shiny Toy Guns: Chad Petree (vocals, guitar, bass guitar); Carah Faye (vocals); Jeremy Dawson (synthesizer, programming); Mikey Martin (drums, percussion). Founded in 2002, Los Angeles-based new new wavers Shiny Toy Guns first gained major label attention through the popular site MySpace. With a heavily synthesized 1980s-inspired pop-rock sound crossed with quirky vocal musings like "Why are the robots so sad?" and "You are the rights I can never own," Shiny Toy Guns skillfully toe the line between the heartwrenching and the comical. Their independent debut album, WE ARE PILOTS, originally recorded in 2005, now appears re-recorded with Universal's big budget behind it.
