Elna 945
Date Published: 3/24/06
This Elna 945 serger is getting rave reviews from sewing enthusiasts. It’s one of the more expensive serger machines on the market, but it does it all. Its computerized features and display screen set it apart from cheaper models. The 945 offers 5/4/3/2 thread overlock, allowing you to sew with a maximum of five threads, which is the garment industry standard. As versatile as they come, this machine produces 24 different types of stitches, including flatlocks, chainstitches, narrow hems, faggoting, wrapped edges, and deco chains. The flatlock can create decorative stripes without cutting the fabric and can be used on exposed seams. The computerized screen keeps you informed of all the functions in operation, such as looper position, stitch length, feed settings, blade position, and cutting width. It also tells you which presser foot to use for a specific technique. Computer controlled tension adjustment eliminates the most frustrating part of using a serger. In addition to these 24 stitches, Procards, which are similar to computer disks, can be purchased to further expand the machine’s capabilities. Each Procard offers three programmed stitches and three blank spaces for programming in favorites. By using this feature, the 945 becomes an updateable overlock machine, similar to many of the top-of-the-line computerized sewing machines sold today. If you live to sew, this machine deserves a second look.
