Electrolux's Pronto 2 in 1 Cordless EL1000A is an attempt to do it all with just one portable vacuum, and it does do a bit of everything--but not necessarily all of it that well.

A cordless model, this unit is convenient. There's never a cord in the way or a need to find another wall outlet, but like most cordless units this model just doesn't have the power of a corded stick vac. Advertised as a unit for cleaning hard floors, Pronto has a powered brushroll. Brushrolls are very useful for carpet cleaning, but on some floors they just blow dirt around and fail to do a good job of picking it up.

Our recommendation is that you exercise caution in respect to this feature. On some surfaces pick up was excellent and on some surfaces the result was unsatisfactory.

When removed from the stick, this unit converts at the press of a button to a very convenient cordless hand vac. As such, it's perfect for picking up crumbs from the floor or pet hair from the sofa. Two power settings are provided. One is the recommended high power setting and the other is an unusual and somewhat puzzling quiet mode recommended if someone is sleeping.

In our experience, sufficient vacuuming and sleeping just don't often happen at the same time. Like most consumers, we prefer power and quick results over a quiet mode that serves to extend the time needed to do the job.

Dust in this bagless unit collects in a dust cup. To empty it, you can simply tip the cup. Or you may opt to remove the entire cup to dump and then clean the filter. A third method allows you to remove the dust by using the suction from a full-size vacuum cleaner hose. But chances are, this unit won't be out at the same time as your large vacuum cleaner. In fact, isn't that the whole point of having a stick vac?

Storing the Pronto is pretty convenient. It comes with a wall mount bracket that needs only to be affixed to the wall near an outlet for recharging. Good-looking, with a swivel head, this model has received mixed reviews from users.
