Electrolux EW30ES65GS slide-in electric range
Date Published: 9/23/08
The upgraded Electrolux EW30ES65GS slide-in electric range will cost you about $300 more than the lesser featured freestanding EI30EF55GS. The primary benefit that the upgraded model offers is the sophisticated Wave-Touch controls. Unlike the basic IQ-Touch controls of the EI30EF55GS, the Wave-Touch controls light up when activated by the wave of your hand. Until you activate the controls, the panel on the EW30ES65GS remains dark, elegant and unobtrusive.
Although these controls add to the cost of the model, those of us trying to get unnecessary stimuli out of our lives may find the added cost of this feature to actually make a lot of sense. The range is dark, quiet and unassuming until you bring it to life for the purpose of preparing yourself a meal.
And when you bring this range to life, you'll find its features to be some of the best. The EW30ES65GS is a range with two ovens -- one in the main cavity and one in the lower drawer. The main oven features Luxury-Glide racks equipped with smooth-rolling ball bearings that pull out with little effort. In fact these racks have the smoothest extension that we've seen in a range at this price level. Inside the oven, you will also note the signature cobalt, blue interior. There's really no functional reason to love it -- but we do. It just seems to speak quality.
The 4.2 cubic feet of cooking space is extensive, but even better is its convection system. If you're new to convection or a bit of a novice when it comes to cooking, this oven is brimming with pre-set controls that take the guesswork out of preparing a number of challenging dishes. Look to settings like Perfect Turkey, bread proofing, dehydrating and defrosting to get you started on some remarkable meals.
Although not as impressive as the oven, the versatile stovetop surface is certainly top quality. Even if electric elements are not our first choice for surface cooking, this model makes a gallant attempt at providing the best possible electric elements. Excellent pan-to-heat contact is provided by elements that adjust to your pan -- and not the other way around.
A model that stands out from the crowd, the pricey Electrolux EW30ES65GS offers a number of unique features for those who desire more than just another slide-in electric range. This model has the smooth feel of quality, the benefits of convection and a unique lower oven and warming drawer.
Pros: Virtually no feature is lacking, offers unique perfect pair -- a full-size oven and a lower oven in the drawer, convection, glide-drawers, lots of pre-set features make it easy to use -- even for amateur cooks
Cons: An expensive investment in a relatively new product
