Electrolux EW30EF65G freestanding electric range

Date Published: 7/31/08

Due to its sophisticated Wave-Touch controls, the EW30EF65G is the more expensive of Electrolux's two freestanding electric ranges. Wave-Touch controls light up only when activated by the wave of your hand; until it is activated, the panel remains dark, elegant and unobtrusive. If you are trying to get unnecessary stimuli out of your life, the added cost of this feature may actually make sense; for those who'd rather save a few dollars, consider Electrolux's EI30EF55G -- which features IQ controls -- instead.

The EW30EF65G is bursting with some of the best features that you'll find in a freestanding electric range. It includes two ovens: one in the main cavity and one in the lower drawer. The main oven features Luxury-Glide racks equipped with smooth-rolling ball bearings that give you an effortless extension. In fact, these racks have the easiest extension that we've seen in a range in this price range. Inside the oven, you'll also note the signature cobalt, blue interior. It offers no functional advantage, but we love it; it just seems to convey a sense of quality.

The 5.7-cubic-foot oven capacity is extensive, and the convection system is eminently effective. If you're new to convection cooking or a bit of a novice chef, this oven is brimming with pre-set controls that take the guesswork out of preparing a number of challenging dishes. Look to settings like Perfect Turkey, Bread Proofing, Dehydrating and Defrosting to get you started.

Almost as impressive as the oven is the EW30EF65G's versatile stovetop surface. Although electric heat is not our first choice for surface cooking, this model makes a gallant attempt to improve pan-to-heat contact by offering elements that adjust to your pan and not the other way around.

If you're looking for a bit more versatility, consider adding the optional grill and/or griddle. These accessories can add greatly to your cooking arsenal.

Electrolux's EW30EF65G is a range that stands out from the crowd. It offers excellent versatility and a number of unique features to those who desire more than just another freestanding electric range.

Pros: Two ovens, offers presets for the inexperienced cook, superior rack movement
Cons: Expensive, some may find the Wave-Touch control to be gimmicky
