Electrolux EI30EF55G freestanding electric range

Date Published: 8/6/08

The EI30EF55G is the less expensive of Electrolux's two freestanding electric ranges. The most immediately noticeable difference between the two models is that this unit's IQ-Touch controls are always lit; the Wave-Touch controls of its sister model (the EW30EF655G) appear only when they are activated. This perpetual illumination may bother some, but this is the most common type of control panel on the market. And besides, this helps to keep the cost of the EI30EF55G down.

The EI30EF55G has plenty of features. Its versatile stovetop surface offers five heating elements instead of the usual four, and the numerous expandable element options allow you to match heat circumference to your pans. Additionally, a simmer burner gives you the increased flexibility needed to melt chocolate slowly, say, or create a delicate sauce.

Even more impressive is the inclusion of two ovens -- the primary oven in the main cavity and a warming oven in the lower drawer. The primary oven features a Luxury-Glide rack that is equipped with smooth-rolling ball bearings to give you a smooth extension. In fact, these racks have the smoothest extension that we've seen in a range at this price point. Inside the oven, you'll also notice the signature cobalt blue interior, which reminds us of interiors found in high-priced commercials cooking equipment.

The capacity of the 5.7-cubic-foot oven is extensive, and its convection capabilities are excellent. What's more, this unit includes a convection conversion system and some pre-set controls to make the transition to convection cooking easier.

The EI30EF55G is available in black, white and stainless, and is especially appealing because of its must-have smooth racks. Thanks to its overall quality and its noteworthy features, we find that this range to be a good value at its price.

Pros: Two ovens, convection, superior rack movement, good value
Cons: Lacks some the pre-sets and controls of Electrolux's more expensive model

Warranty
1 year, limited; 5 years, cooktop and surface elements
