Sometimes it really does make sense to spend more on a vacuum cleaner. If you've had to throw out many vacuums, it may be time to take a look at Dyson's revolutionary model, the DC15 Animal.

In our tests, this well-built model filled its dust container full of dog hair off what was supposedly a recently vacuumed rug. The suction power of the Root8Cyclone technology continues to live up to its reputation of using centrifugal force to keep accumulated dirt from clogging the vacuum and lessening the suction.

The difference between this model and the less expensive Dyson 07 is in the maneuverability. While the 07 version has a stable head, this unit's head swivels, making it easier to glide around corners and get closer to things such as table legs. Certainly a convenience, this swivel feature will save you time in awkward spaces and give you less reason to remove the hose to go after dirt the machine head seems to miss. The disadvantage is that opting for the swivel head model will set you back an additional $100 or so over the comparable Dyson 07. For those willing to spend this kind of money on a vacuum, we suspect the extra $100 won't be much of a set back.

Beyond this new feature there really isn't much difference between the 07 and the DC15. Both can be expected to perform effectively and are backed by a solid warranty. So far, outstanding customer service of the kind we thought had gone out of style seems to be the norm for this newcomer manufacturer.

The rest of the DC15's features include the ability to pick up fairly large objects without damaging the motor and effective filtration that works well enough even for allergy sufferers. Two washable filters and a HEPA filter are included and never need replacement. The clear dust containment system serves as an excellent reminder to empty before damage can occur. And lastly, the brushroll can be turned off for effective and non-damaging cleaning of hard wood floors.

Once again, it appears that Dyson has done its part to revolutionize the vacuum industry with the Dyson DC15 Animal.
