Dual XIA2340 auto amplifier
Date Published: 7/19/05
The Dual XIA2340 is a basic amplifier that manages to surprise with some unexpected features. For example, the XIA2340 is designed to work with Dual's illumiNITE speakers and subwoofers, providing 12-volt DC power to light up a series of LED in the speakers.
Flashy feature aside, the XIA2340 is a very competent amplifier. It uses a PWM MOSFET power supply for efficient and cool operation without a cooling fan. The XIA2340 is a two-channel bridgeable amplifier, providing 70 watts (continuous) into two channels at 4 ohms and 340 watts peak power. The frequency response is listed as 20Hz to 20,000Hz. There are speaker and line-level inputs, along with a variable input (sensitivity) level control.
The XIA2340 has a switch to select filter type for low pass, high pass, or full range, and there is a variable high- and low-pass crossover with a 12dB/octave slope. The unit also has a 12dB bass boost, as well as thermal and short-circuit protection. The Dual XIA2340 is a very good, basic amplifier with a few tricks up its sleeve.
