Dirt Devil Vision Easy Steamer MCE7350

For a very reasonable price, the Dirt Devil Vision Easy Steamer MCE7350 can bring the convenience of carpet cleaning to one's home. At this attractive price -- which is about half of what most heavy-duty steam cleaners cost -- one may wonder if the Dirt Devil Vision Easy Steamer is effective. After all, with a lower retail price than similar models, there has to be a catch, right?
We tested the Dirt Devil Vision Easy Steamer on several carpet styles, including a thick friese and a low-loop pile. The Vision Easy Steamer performed well on both styles, removing dirt and soil with relative ease. We did, however, find that we needed to stop the machine to remove loose carpet fibers when it was used on the friese. This is fairly typical, even with more expensive machines. After testing on the usual suspects (dirt and soil), we took it to the next level and tackled some set-in stains. With the use of a pre-treater (not included) we were able to remove these stains.
Like most steam cleaners, the Vision Easy Steamer has a rotating brush on the main vacuum head that helps loosen grime before being extracted by the vacuum. This model has a view-through hood through which one can see the water/solution extracted from carpets. Keep in mind that if there are loose carpet fibers or pet hair, this hood will need to be snapped off and cleaned, otherwise the vacuum will lose suction. The vacuum uses a two-tank system. One is used to store solution (this is a 1-gallon tank), and the other is used to collect dirty water/solution as it is extracted from carpets. The tanks are easy to remove and we were able to fill them without making a mess. We would have preferred a clean-rinse option, but even pricier models don't always offer a clean water rinse. The Vision Easy Steamer has an 11-inch cleaning path, which is about average, and it cleans in both forward and reverse. Some models dispense only when pushing and extract only when pulling.
The Vision Easy Steamer weighs 21.4 pounds fully loaded and is easy to move from room to room. It doesn't take up much storage room, either. We were initially worried that the Vision Easy Steamer has less power than other models in its class. It has 5.2 amps, compared to the 12 amps on other models we've tested. However, the amperage didn't seem to significantly affect the vacuum's performance, although it might not be the right choice for someone who needs to power through dirt-laden high traffic areas on a regular basis.
Our final thoughts? The Dirt Devil Vision Easy Steamer is worth the price. It costs less than comparable models, but offers an adequate performance.
