While we were initially wooed by the Dirt Devil's good looks, we were pleased to discover its beauty isn't skin deep. This model has a number of useful features that make it work efficiently and conveniently.

The Dirt Devil M082700 is a lightweight canister-style vacuum with a built-in HEPA filter that traps dust and other allergens. The nozzle and telescoping wand are attached to the canister via a flexible hose that expands to 6 feet in length. We like the Dirt Devil's low-profile, two-wheel design, which keeps it from tipping. We recommend the Dirt Devil Vision Canister M082700 for homes with pet hair issues. The Vision canister has a turbo tool that is especially adept at picking up pet hair and large surface debris. It also comes equipped with a crevice tool, dusting brush and upholstery brush. The Vision has powerful suction; it left carpets looking clean and refreshed. It seemed to work equally well on carpets of various pile heights, ranging from low-loop to high-pile. We only wish the cleaning path were wider.

There are a number of "little things" that make the Vision easier to use than other models we've tested. We especially like the built-in carrying handle. This large handle flips up when needed and makes it simple to carry the canister body. With this generation of lightweight canisters, it's easy to lift and carry the vacuum while cleaning overhead spaces. The Vision also has a variable speed control. This control allows the user to adjust the amount of suction, which is great for curtains and area rugs. The Vision has a bare floor attachment, as well. We find the bare floor attachment works quite well, clearing the floor of large particles such as sand. The vacuum is a bagless model, which means we can skip the additional expense of buying bags.

Unlike many other models we've tested, the Dirt Devil Vision has a relatively long power cord. At 20 feet, the power cord allows us to vacuum large rooms and long hallways without repositioning the power cord to more than one electrical outlet. Plus, the cord automatically retracts.

The Dirt Devil Vision M082700 may have attracted us with its chic red design, but it kept us satisfied with its above-par performance. Good looking, hard working and well priced, the Dirt Devil Vision is one for the short list.
