Dirt Devil Platinum Force Carpet Shampooer MCE7900

If innovative features are at the top of your list when shopping for a steam vacuum, give the Dirt Devil carpet shampooer a closer look. Unlike most steam vacuums, which have a single suction device, the Dirt Devil Platinum Force MCE7900 has dual suction nozzles. This means dirty water is extracted at a faster rate and has less time to soak into carpets.
We like the rotating brushes on the Dirt Devil Platinum Force Carpet Shampooer. This may not seem like a novel feature, but these rotating brushes move in opposite directions so carpet fibers are cleansed from all sides. We found this made it faster and easier to remove dirt and stains, and the brushes can be turned off with the push of a button. We also like the Dirt Devil Platinum Force's triple tank design. It has a tank that holds water used in cleaning, and this tank has a separate soap dispenser that automatically measures and adds soap. Well-placed switches on the Dirt Devil's handle control the soap dispenser. This way, one can turn off the soap dispenser to use the tank for a clean-water rinse. A third tank collects dirty water extracted from carpets. The ability to apply a clean-water rinse to carpets helps remove soapy residue and we believe this helps carpets stay clean longer. It just makes sense that removing sticky residue will keep dirt from clinging to carpet fibers. The tanks are easy to remove, fill and snap back into place.
Although the Dirt Devil Platinum Force Carpet Shampooer performs well, removing dirt and stains while leaving carpets fresher, there are a few things we would change. Our major concern centered on the Dirt Devil's water tank. While we like the system and its design, we did notice that water seemed to slowly drip if the Dirt Devil sat stationary for an extended period, or if it was rolled from one place to another. And though the amount of water dripped wasn't large, we worry that it will only increase over time. And, let's face it, it just shouldn't drip in the first place. At more than 31 pounds, the Dirt Devil Platinum Force is heavier than some other models we've tried, and most of the weight is in the handle area when the tanks are full. This can make the Dirt Devil Platinum seem off-balance. The verdict? Although we like the Dirt Devil Platinum Force Carpet Shampooer for its cleaning abilities and three-tank design, it isn't flawless -- and that keeps it from earning our highest praise.
