Digiview Color Changing Projection Clock 197848
Date Published: 11/28/07
The Digiview Color Changing Projection Clock (model 197848) is an interesting and useful device with a host of built-in features. As the name suggests, the Projection Clock gives you a clock face with ever-shifting colors, and it can even project the time and colors onto the wall or ceiling. The colors shift from green to red to blue, with various shades of orange, purple and yellow appearing during the changes. The display is mesmerizing to watch.
In addition to the time, which can be displayed in 12- or 24-hour formats, the Projection Clock shows the current date, room temperature and moon phase. This unit also sports two alarms and a programmable snooze function that can last up to 99 minutes. The clock is powered by an included AC adapter and two AA batteries. It can run on batteries alone for a short time, but this quickly drains them, so we don't recommend it.
Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the Projection Clock is its rotating projector, which lets you direct a blown-up image of the current time onto your wall or ceiling. When the color-change function is activated, the projection shows the same shifting color patterns as the clock face. You can even flip the projection to ensure the time is easily readable no matter which way you are facing.
Because the Projection Clock receives a signal from the U.S. Atomic Clock service, you never need to worry about setting (or resetting) the time. Within 24 hours of activating the Projection Clock, a radio signal is received to update the time and date. Be aware that the Atomic Clock signal can be weak in certain areas, and certain electronic devices can interfere with the Projection Clock's reception.
Setting up and operating the Projection Clock can be a bit confusing. There are nondescript +/-, Mode and Set buttons, and you'll need to refer to the instruction booklet to figure out how they adjust the unit. Once you familiarize yourself with the controls, operation is relatively straightforward.
It isn't the easiest device to operate, but the Digiview Color Changing Projection Clock is an innovative and colorful clock that fits well in a bedroom or dormroom.
Pros: Accurate Atomic Clock-updated time keeping, lovely color-shifting display, projection feature
Cons: Controls are not self-explanatory, Atomic Clock signal can be blocked by interference
