Most people have gone digital when it comes to cameras -- ditching the ways of tiny film canisters, two days of photo development and AA batteries. However, in replacing a film camera with a digital camera, you're still stuck with camera accessory needs. There are several categories you should take into consideration when investing in digital camera accessories, and Consumer Guide has just the guide to keep you prepared and organized.
Memory for Memories
Digital cameras usually come with a little bit of memory built into them, but if you plan on using your camera to take more than just a few pictures, you'll probably want to invest in additional memory. More memory means you have the ability to take and store more pictures, without having to remove images from memory right after every photo-taking event.
Additional memory cards for digital cameras can look very similar to memory cards for computers. When selecting a memory card, make sure it is compatible with your digital camera. Also, you will want to determine how much memory you will need to purchase. Do you want one card, a spare card or several cards? These questions can be answered according to how many photos you will be taking on average, and that depends on whether photography is your hobby, your profession or an offshoot of another hobby (such as scrap booking).
And if you're the type who tends to load up several memory cards and toss them to the side for later uploading, consider purchasing a memory card case. There are many different styles and sizes of memory cases.

Charging Things Up
Things just don't run on air alone you know. A digital camera requires a charged battery in order to function properly. And in order to keep snapping away with the camera without interruption, an extra battery may be useful. Not every battery fits every digital camera, so make sure you choose the proper battery for your camera.
Some digital cameras take battery packs, whereas others take a single battery. Either way, these batteries will need to be recharged, so you must own a charger or AC adapter. For those long trips -- in which you might just go flash happy -- a battery charger is most necessary. And if you have two batteries, you can be sure to always have a charged battery ready to go if you keep one battery in the camera and one on the charger.
Camera In Tow
Cameras should be handled with care; however, if you carry one around with you everywhere, it is bound to encounter some heavy traffic and perhaps get bumped or dropped. This is why it is advisable to carry your digital camera in an appropriate case.
Cases for cameras are much like those for phones and MP3 players. There are many different types of cases. A silicone skin is a rubbery casing that fits perfectly around a camera and protects it from scratches, minor drops and even a little bit of moisture. Some soft and hard cases are also molded inside in the form of specific cameras. This allows a camera to sit snugly in its case with no room to be jostled.
If you have a lot of photography equipment, you may opt for a larger bag, one that will carry all of your things. Bookbags and shoulder bags made specifically for photography equipment are also available.
Marine cases allow you to take pictures with the fishes. These protective cases snap over cameras to seal out water. But just like skins, marine cases only fit cameras for which they are specifically made.

Viewing
It’s only natural that once you take pictures with a digital camera you will want to view them -- otherwise, what would be the point? With today's technology, viewing images taken with your digital camera can be done instantly. Of course, most of us enjoy having the printed pictures in our hands. Digital photos can be printed at the typical photo booth or in the comfort of your own home via photo printers. Photo printers can be found in many electronic/computer stores, and you should take into consideration that you will not only be buying a printer, you will also have to buy ink and photo paper, which can definitely increase the cost significantly.
Also new on the market today are digital photo viewers, which come in different shapes and sizes. Digital picture frames display your images in a slideshow fashion. All you have to do is download the images into the frame's memory. There are several companies that make digital picture frames, and the numbers are growing.
And despite technological advances, digital picture sharing does not have to mean e-mailing JPGs and GIFs. Digital photos are portable thanks to digital photo albums and digital photo viewer keychains. So you can still be on the go, share your pictures and keep on snapping.
