Denon DVM-725 DVD Changer

Date Published: 1/9/08

Denon's DVM-725 is an entry-level DVD changer that offers excellent video and audio performance. It lacks some of the high-end features found on more advanced changers from Denon and other manufacturers, but the five-disc DVM-725 nevertheless gives you quality playback at an affordable (for Denon) price.

When connected to a compatible TV, the DVM-725 delivers high-quality images via the progressive scan (480p) component video output. The component output is also 480i-compliant, and there are the standard S-video and composite video outputs for connecting to analog TVs. A 2MB memory buffer reduces layer-change pauses during playback, and the DVM-725 features high-resolution audio and video digital-to-analog converters to ensure a clear, artifact-free picture.

As you would expect from Denon, the audio performance from the DVM-725 is outstanding. This changer has an integrated Dolby Digital and DTS decoder, so you can link with a full-feature home theater receiver and experience multichannel surround sound. The DVM-725 also sports an effective Virtual Surround Sound mode to simulate multichannel sound over an external two-speaker system or even through the stereo speakers on your TV.

In addition to standard audio CD, this changer can handle home-recorded CD-R/RW loaded with MP3 and WMA digital audio files. The DVM-725 also plays dual-layer (DL) DVD, as well as discs holding JPEG images. The carousel shuffles discs smoothly and quietly, and you can exchange four discs while a fifth continues to play. The Denon DVM-725 is a quality DVD changer that delivers superior performance from both video and audio sources.

Pros:  High-quality video and audio reproduction, compatible with MP3 CD and dual-layer DVD
Cons:  Uninspiring looks, expensive for an entry-level unit

Warranty
90 days labor, 1 year parts
