Denon DVD-2910 DVD/SACD universal player
Date Published: 6/24/08
Denon has a great reputation for high-quality audio and video equipment, and the DVD-2910 universal player is a case in point. This update of Denon's DVD-2900 supports the high-resolution audio formats of DVD-Audio and SACD, and the audio reproduction is simply stunning.
To achieve optimum sound quality, the DVD-2910 provides a digital bass management system that allows you to select speaker size, distance and location. It also includes built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders, as well as optical and coaxial digital audio outputs to route surround sound signals to a home theater receiver.
While the audio reproduction excels, Denon hasn't overlooked video performance. The DVD-2910 offers both DVI and HDMI connections for up-converting standard DVD video output to 720p and 1,080i high-definition resolutions. The unit is compatible with a wide variety of video and audio disc formats, including DVD-Audio, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, SACD, CD-R/RW, VCD, and discs loaded with MP3 and WMA files. It can also create digital slideshows from discs containing JPEG images.
The DVD-2910 is a solidly built component, but it suffers from some of the same annoying glitches that plagued its predecessor. The player can be slow to respond to commands, and setting up and mastering its functions can be confusing and frustrating. If you are a DVD novice or have little technical ability, learning to operate the DVD-2910 can prove maddeningly time consuming, and the accompanying manual is of little help.
That said, once the DVD-2910 is up and running, the video and audio performance makes it well worth the effort. If you want the best of high-resolution audio playback and HD-quality DVD video performance, the Denon DVD-2910 may be the player for you.
Pros: Awesome audio reproduction, SACD and DVD-Audio compatibility, DVI and HDMI connections
