Denon DVD-1920 DVD/SACD universal player
Date Published: 1/9/08
The Denon DVD-1920 DVD/SACD universal player is a good value. While it lacks some of the more advanced features found on upper-end Denon models, such as noise reduction, the proprietary Denon Link, and pure direct audio modes, it is still a capable player that will meet the needs of most consumers.
The single-disc progressive scan DVD-1920 is compatible with DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW and MP3, WMA9 and JPEG images saved to recordable DVD and CD. When connected to a digital television or home theater receiver via the HDMI output, the DVD-1920 can up-convert video to high-definition levels of 720p or 1,080i. A 2MB memory buffer softens transitions during DVD playback. While this is less than the 8MB buffer found on the higher-end Denon universal players, it is still more than adequate for most situations.
The DVD-1920 has built-in processing for Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound, and it includes digital bass management with a filter fixed at 80Hz. In addition to the HDMI connection, there is a discrete six-channel output for surround sound (from DVD-Audio and SACD, in addition to DVD-Video), as well as optical and coaxial digital outputs and the standard component video, composite video and S-video outputs. While it doesn't boast many of the top-end features found on Denon's top universal players, the DVD-1920 is still a high-quality player that will satisfy most users.
