Denon D-M33S compact stereo system
Date Published: 8/22/06
The Denon D-M33S compact stereo system can truly be considered a microsystem, but it maximizes every inch to provide a rich and satisfying sound. Removing the grilles from the speakers reveals surprisingly large woofers--each speaker has a 4-7/10-inch woofer, as well as a 1-inch tweeter. The wood finish and (interestingly) the tuning are both said to be influenced by European tastes, and the speakers should blend in well with an IKEA-inspired apartment.
The sleek and shiny main unit houses a single-disc CD player that features Burr-Brown D/A converters. In addition to CD-R/RW, the D-M33S is compatible with MP3 and WMA files burned to disc. There are two pairs of analog stereo inputs, so you can connect a portable audio device or a television. There is also an optical digital audio output for linking to a home theater receiver, and you can connect a subwoofer via the pre-amp output.
The D-M33S has a basic tone control for bass and treble adjustments. A headphone jack is included for personal listening. The tuner has presets for 40 AM and FM stations. The D-M33S is an attractive system compact stereo system, and it packs a lot of performance into its diminutive design.
Pros: Good sound from small package, MP3 and WMA playback
