Denon D-F101S compact stereo system
Date Published: 8/22/06
The Denon D-F101S compact stereo system is ideal for the upscale executive office, but it would make a classy addition to any location. This eye-catching package has half-mirror displays on the main receiver unit and separate CD player, and the MDF speaker cabinets are finished in attractive wood grain.
The D-F101S has a single-disc CD player that is compatible with home-recorded CD-R/RW, but it unfortunately doesn't play MP3 or WMA digital audio files burned to disc. On the other hand, the receiver unit has five audio inputs, so you can directly connect an MP3 player. It even has a dedicated phono input for a turntable, as well as an optical digital audio output. The digital AM/FM tuner has presets for 40 stations, and the amplifier provides 35 watts of audio output per channel.
Each speaker uses a 3-4-inch sheer microfiber soft-dome tweeter and a 4-1/2-inch woven-glass composite woofer. The speakers have a very clear and clean high-frequency response, which is exactly what you should expect from an upper-end compact stereo system.
This system has some useful convenience features, such as an alarm timer and basic equalization. Although lacking DVD or MP3 playback, the Denon D-F101S is a high-quality compact stereo system that looks as good as it sounds.
Pros: Clear and accurate sound, good connectivity, attractive design
Cons: Not compatible with MP3 and other digital audio formats, no disc changer
