Denon AVR-5805 THX Ultra2-certified A/V receiver

Date Published: 1/8/08

Denon's AVR-5805 is a reference-quality home theater receiver that is not for the faint of heart, not to mention the faint of wallet. This ultimate top-end model can supply power for two complete 5.1 home theaters, providing 170 watts per channel into ten channels. In addition, you can configure the AVR-5805 to supply sound for a total of four zones, in configurations of up to 9.1 channels in a single room. This isn't just audio routing, as the AVR-5805 has component, composite, and S-video switching available for a second and third room.

The AVR-5805 boasts THX Ultra2 certification, with decoding for THX Surround EX, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS-ES, DTS Neo:6, and Dolby Headphone, among other formats. This A/V receiver also has equalization that optimizes the sound for eight different listening positions. There is even a radio receiver with presets for a total of 56 AM and FM stations.

The AVR-5805 is an HDMI-switching receiver, and it includes three HDMI inputs as well as a DVI input. There is a Denon Link (IEEE 1394) connection that accepts direct digital signals from DVD-Audio and SACD players, and the Pure Direct mode eliminates interference from video when listening to an audio-only source. The AVR-5805 has one analog multichannel input, six optical digital audio inputs, six coaxial digital audio inputs, and three optical digital audio outputs. There are also two digital audio inputs/outputs (IEEE 1394) and a phono input, as well as eight composite video inputs.

With a system this complex, you'll appreciate the on-screen display. As you would expect from a system of this caliber, a comprehensive learning remote control is included. The Denon AVR-5805 receiver is quite a monster, and it can be configured for just about any home audio and video application imaginable.
