Denon AVR-1906 seven-channel A/V receiver
Date Published: 1/14/08
The Denon AVR-1906 is a wonderful seven-channel home theater receiver, as it combines advanced features and strong performance with a simple-to-use configuration system and interface.
For home theater beginners, the AVR-1906's set-up and calibration process could not be easier. An included microphone is placed in the preferred listening position, and the AVR-1906 plays distinct tones in each speaker. The system analyzes the sounds and lets the listener configure speaker levels and delays to compensate for different speakers distances. Calibration data and other information is presented via an on-screen display, making this operation a snap.
The amplifier provides up to 85 watts into all channels, and the AVR-1906 includes processing for Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24 and DTS Neo:6, along with standard 5.1 formats plus Dolby Pro Logic IIx. A very flexible system, the AVR-1906 can send audio to another room for dual-room, dual-source applications, with amplified or unamplified signals.
The AVR-1906 will convert all video input formats to component video, and it includes three component video inputs and one output. In addition, the unit has three audio and four composite video inputs, as well as three optical and two coaxial digital audio inputs.
There are also six pre-amplified inputs for DVD-Audio or SACD. However, the AVR-1906 lacks an amplified phono input, so this may not be the best choice for someone with a vinyl library.
Still, the Denon AVR-1906 is a high-level home theater receiver that will not overwhelm a first-timer.
