Deni Healthy Juicer 4501

Date Published: 11/21/06

The Deni Healthy Juicer 4501 is a compact unit that is both efficient and economical. Part of the Giovanna by Deni Platinum Series, the unit is styled in plastic with a brushed silver finish. The base is designed with a tall stem on which all the parts are placed. The juice pitcher fits over the stem and twist-locks in place. The juicing cone and strainer sit atop the pitcher and a clear dome cover can be placed over the strainer tray for dust-free storage.

The 3-cup juicing pitcher has a flared back with a wide rim on one end and a pouring spout on the other end. The rim is practical and aids in lifting and tipping the pitcher to pour out the juice. One feature we did not like was the opaque pitcher, since it is nearly impossible to tell how much juice you have in the pitcher at any given time. This is a minor inconvenience, however, since you can always pour the juice into cups as you go. The large juicing cone is tapered with raised ridges extending from the tip down to the base. The cone also has two "feet" that sweep around the strainer to push the loose pulp that collects and press any remaining juice through the slits in the strainer.

We found the Deni Healthy Juicer to be efficient for juicing all types of citrus, although oranges are by far the easiest because their size is perfectly suited to the shape and size of the juicing cone. Lemons worked fine as well, and limes and grapefruit simply require a bit of fancy maneuvering on the cone. We did notice a slight buildup of pulp in the strainer. This was more noticeable because of the unit's compact dimensions.

This juicer is activated by pressing on the cone, which spins quickly while you hold the cut end of the fruit against it. The cone rotates in both directions, first clockwise and then counterclockwise when you lift and press the fruit again onto the cone. The dual direction helps to obtain the maximum amount of juice from each piece of fruit.

All of the parts except the motor base disassemble for easy cleaning. The hidden cord storage under the base eliminates dangling cords. The Deni Healthy Juicer 4501 may be pint-sized, but it delivers juice for your entire family.

Pros: Compact, dual-direction juicing, cord storage
Cons: Opaque pitcher
