This unit consists of a compact sealing base, which holds pre-folded sheets of plastic that can be custom cut and sealed to whatever size suits your needs. The bags are microwavable so foods can be frozen and then thawed right in the bag. There is a white panel printed directly on the plastic, which is writable so you can record the contents and date on which foods were stored.

The Vacuum Sealer 1631 is easy to use -- even for a novice. You simply draw the plastic material over the sealing wire and press and hold the lid to seal. The wire also acts as a cutting tool, letting you pull the material away to cut and release the bag. The Vacuum Sealer 1631 has a fan-driven vacuum mechanism that draws air out of the bag before sealing so foods retain their freshness, flavor, color and nutrients twice as long as conventional storage methods.

The Vacuum Sealer 1631 produces a gentler seal than that of a Food Saver for instance, and therefore can be used for preserving an assortment of non-food items, such as baseball cards, photographs, charts, maps and other documents.
