Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP 30-inch widescreen HD LCD monitor
Date Published: 2/21/08
The Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP is a 30-inch flat-panel LCD monitor that offers a number of attractive features, as well as great image quality and color fidelity. However, unless you really need a 30-inch HD-compatible display, it may be worth waiting a while until the price drops into a more realistic realm.
This display requires a DVI dual-link graphics card that supports 2,560X1,600 resolution. This further adds to the expense (up to $800), unless you're lucky enough to already have such a card in your system.
The 3007WFP is easy to set up, but the size and weight (about 25 pounds) can make it tricky to move around. The tripod base is sturdy and stable and doesn't require much in the way of desktop space, although the display itself needs a fair amount of clearance.
If the 3007WFP's price tag and graphics card requirement haven't stopped you in your tracks, then you will be rewarded with a display that delivers high performance in terms of image quality, color fidelity and pixel response time. Colors are bright, clear and true to life, and even small text is sharp. Ghosting and blurring are minimal in video and other fast-moving images, such as 3-D games. The 30-inch viewable area is generous enough to allow you to comfortably work in multiple applications at the same time.
Adjustment options are plentiful. You can tilt the display forward or back, swivel it 60 degrees from side to side or take advantage of its 90mm (about 3-1/2-inch) height adjustment option. Horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 178 degrees help reduce image distortion when viewing the display off-axis.
Features include four USB 2.0 ports, so you can use the display as a USB hub for peripherals such as scanners and digital cameras. The monitor also has a nine-in-two memory card reader. The Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP lacks some bells and whistles, and its price tag isn't for the faint of heart, but it's still a good deal for a display of this size and quality.
Pros: Above-average image quality and color fidelity, multiple adjustment options, includes four USB ports and a nine-in-two memory card reader
Cons: Expensive, requires a DVI dual-link graphics card that supports 2,560X1,600 resolution, no component video, composite video, or S-video inputs
