Dell UltraSharp 2707WFP 27-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor

Date Published: 9/28/07

"Bigger, better, more" may be Dell's rallying cry for its UltraSharp 2707WFP, a massive 27-inch widescreen LCD wonder. The 2707WFP sits between Dell's 24-inch 2407WFP and 30-inch 3007WFP, and it boasts the best features of the bunch. Unlike the 30-inch model, the 2707WFP doesn't need a special dual-link DVI port and cable to enable its full 1,920x1,200 resolution, as just about any current video card with DVI-D connections will do. In addition, although the 2707WFP has the same native resolution as the smaller 2407WFP, we are impressed with the additional capabilities this display offers.

The 2707WFP has very similar specifications to the 2407WFP, with the same 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 6-millisecond pixel response time. However, the 2707WFP exceeds the lesser model in two very important aspects, black levels and color gamut. The detail in dark screen areas is among the best we've seen in an LCD monitor. The 2707WFP can also display over 92 percent of the NTSC color space, making it an excellent choice if you are a photographer or video professional regularly dealing with critical color workflows.

One of our common complaints with large displays is that they often have the same native resolution as smaller displays, forcing them to increase individual pixel sizes to fill the screen. For example, the 2707WFP has a pixel pitch of 0.303mm, which is large enough to lead us to expect jagged image borders and text. Surprisingly, the 2707WFP doesn't suffer from this problem, producing sharp and clear text and images.

Dell monitors are very good about providing multiple input capabilities, and the 2707WFP has enough connections for almost any use, including DVI-D, D-sub, component video, composite video and S-video. The DVI connection is HDCP-compliant, so you won't have any trouble viewing protected content from Blu-ray, HD DVD and other high-definition sources. The 2707WFP also has PIP features, so you can catch up with your favorite TV shows while you work. This monitor includes four USB 2.0 ports, and a built-in Flash card reader supports nine common card formats.

The Dell UltraSharp 2707WFP widescreen LCD monitor is a feature-rich, well-designed unit that will please multimedia fans, color professionals and casual users alike, even if the price is on the high side.

Pros: Wide color gamut and excellent black levels, fast response time, plenty of video inputs, four USB 2.0 ports, built-in Flash card reader
Cons: Non-swivel stand, no display rotation, pricey

Warranty
3 years, parts and labor (limited)
