DCS 30-Inch Professional Gas Range RGT-305
Date Published: 10/26/07
The heavy-duty components in the DCS (Dynamic Cooking Systems) RGT-305 professional gas range are exactly the same as you'd find in the kitchens of many fine restaurants. Although the design of the RGT-305 has been modified to meet residential standards, you can expect all the performance and durability of a commercial range right in your home.
When we evaluate a range, we look for outstanding cooking power and maximum control, and the RGT-305 stands out from the crowd for two very specific reasons. First, like only a handful of other manufacturers, DCS equips this range with two flames per burner. Both flames are active for high-heat tasks, but for very low-heat jobs like simmering, only one flame is used. Eliminating the additional flame allows for a lower heat and a more controlled simmer, so there's much less opportunity for scorching delicate sauces and soups.
Second, the RGT-305 has an unusual fifth burner in its center. This burner is equipped with one of the highest gas outputs we've seen on any range. Offering up to 17,500 Btu of cooking power, the fifth burner is ready for some serious cooking. Use it to execute a flaming stir-fry, sear a mouthwatering steak or simply achieve the fastest boil you've ever seen.
For a range of this size and design, the 30-inch RGT-305 has a fairly spacious convection oven. With a capacity of 4.2 cubic feet, it's not the largest out there, but it can handle plenty of baking items and performs as well as any professionally-styled convection oven. What really sets it apart from other consumer models is its glass-sealed infrared broiler. Few ovens include this upgraded feature, and the ones that do usually cannot produce heat as powerful and evenly distributed as the RGT-305.
On the negative side, the RGT-305 doesn't include a self-cleaning oven. The DCS model that has the self-cleaning feature is nearly $1,000 more.
One of the Fisher & Paykel family of products, this range isn't supported by lots of flashy advertising, nor does it get a lot of hype. Instead, the DCS RGT-305 focuses on quality and performance for home chefs who desire the no-nonsense cooking power of the pros.
Pros: Dual-flame burners for excellent control, extremely high-power center burner, infrared broiler, sealed burners, no-nonsense professional performance for the serious cook
Cons: Lacks timer and clock, no digital display, no self-clean feature, expensive
