Datexx Pavio (PVR30T) personal video player/recorder
Date Published: 4/23/08
Described by Datexx as a portable digital theater, the Pavio is a personal video player/recorder (PVP) that combines a 3-1/2-inch LCD screen with a digital video recorder, MP3 player, digital picture viewer and dock-integrated TV tuner.
The Pavio includes a 30GB hard drive that can store up to 20 average length movies, up to 72 hours of TV programming, 7,000 MP3 digital music files, or 30,000 JPEG images. Voice files can also be stored and played back, and the Pavio can even function as an external hard drive. Files are transferred via the included SD and CompactFlash memory card slots, and the Pavio dock has a USB 2.0 port for connection to a PC or Mac. In addition to recharging the battery, the dock contains the TV tuner; unfortunately, the Pavio cannot display live TV while "on the go."
The battery has a life of six hours when playing MP3 files or three hours when playing videos, which will disappoint some potential buyers. It is equipped with an A/V output for connecting to a TV, speakers, or a computer. The docking cradle has a DC input, audio/video output and input, tuner input, and S-video output. The Pavio comes with a remote control, but it is only operational when the Pavio is in the dock. Headphones, a carrying case and a selection of cables are also included.
The video quality of the Datexx Pavio PVR30T is only adequate, but the Pavio makes up for it by combining multiple features into an easy-to-use, portable unit.
