Danby DWM99W Portable Top-Load Compact Washer
Date Published: 3/11/08
Easy to use in the smallest of spaces, the Danby DWM99W Portable Top-Load Compact Washer doesn't require a washing machine hookup. Instead it connects quickly and easily to the faucet of your sink.
Mounted on wheels, this compact washer is portable enough to store in a small space and roll to the sink when needed. We think it makes a fine choice for a small apartment, mobile home or cottage. The drawback, of course, is its small capacity. Don't look to this model if you plan to wash more than a few garments for one or two people at a time, since its capacity is just 8.8 pounds of laundry.
We like the DWM99W for its choice of four water level settings. Choose the setting that just covers your laundry and prevent wasting valuable water resources. Like many models of this type, Danby's offering allows you to use hot, warm or cold water for your wash. With five cycles to choose from, this machine has more washing options than many comparable models.
Since the Danby DWM99W is a small machine, be careful not to overdo it on the detergent. Adding too much detergent may cause an over-sudsing problem or leave soap in your clothes. This is especially true when using the economy setting that only rinses the load once.
Priced in the mid range for this type of product, the DWM99W offers a tub constructed of heavy-duty (and we think desirable) stainless steel. The washer's capacity of 8.8 pounds, like its price, is in the mid-range for compact washers.
Danby may be an unfamiliar brand to you, but the availability of its products in the United States is definitely on the rise. Over the last few years, we have seen a tremendous increase in their products, particularly in laundry care and refrigeration categories. An appliance marketing company, Danby offers products made around the world. The operation was founded in Canada, but has a large presence in the United States in Findlay, Ohio.
An excellent compact machine, we recommend Danby's DWM99W for those who would be satisfied with both a mid-range price and a mid-range capacity in their washer.
Pros: Good compromise model, mid-range price, mid-range capacity
Cons: Produces lots of suds
