Danby DDW1805W

Apartment dwellers are calling this 18-inch portable model from newcomer Danby Appliances a real winner. Champion that it is, the DDW1805W is giving new life to kitchens that previously had no space for a dishwasher. And instead of getting in the way, this little helper is providing 18 extra inches of much needed countertop space--all while cleaning up the after-dinner mess. Surprisingly, this model offers many features we have come to expect only from the high-priced luxury units. Take the durable stainless-steel spray arm and interior. These are both durable and corrosion resistant. Two wash arms, instead of the usual one, go a long way in getting dishes really clean. The adjustable upper rack and flexible folding racks make a lot of sense in such a small unit. The variety of loading options serves to make this small space super-efficient. Equipped with a rinse agent dispenser, this model even has a lighted reminder to let you know it's time for a refill. Fairly simple to use, you roll this model to the sink and hook it up to the faucet. Expect the cycle to run a bit longer than the typical--but be rewarded with a really clean load. An unusual feature on this model is the water softener, designed to be used if you live in a hard water area. If desired, it can be loaded with water softener salt. The feature then self-adjusts the salt to the water in an effort to protect the dishwasher from staining and corrosion. An all around winner, the one thing that bothers us is the requirement that you occasionally clean out the large filter. Forgetting to do so could cause some clogging later on. Despite this we recommend you finally throw away the paper plates and get out your fine china. Help is on the way.
Pro: small, flexible, machine with durable components Con: large filter requires occasional cleaning
