Dacor Millennia Oven with concealed keypad MOV130

Date Published: 1/15/08

If money is no object but up-to-the-minute technology is everything, you might want to take a look at the 30-inch Dacor Millennia Oven with concealed keypad MOV130.

The most dramatic feature of this oven by far is its Discovery Controller. The Discovery Controller is easy to use and sets the mode, cooking time and temperature of the foods you choose to prepare. It's definitely one of the most technologically advanced control systems we've ever seen on an oven.

Once you select a food to prepare in the MOV130, the help screen offers tips and tells you how to best prepare the food. With a recipe memory for up to 100 foods, you can program the cooking information for all of your favorites. This controller even allows you to change the color of the backlit control panel. Choose a shade to match your color scheme or program it to reflect the colors of the current holiday.

When it comes to performance, the MOV130 is every bit as good as we would expect from a Dacor oven, even if we were distracted by the intriguing controls. Multiple cooking modes offer an amazing variety of ways to prepare foods in this oven -- maybe even too many. With so many modes from which to choose, we often didn't know which mode would be best for a food. We found the multiple variations on bake, roast, convect and surround to be numerous and confusing. People with limited cooking experience might not mind letting the oven make these decisions for them, but those more experienced in the kitchen may not want to give up so much control to the oven.

What we did like was the powerful 3000-watt broiler, the accurate meat probe, the brilliant halogen lighting and the smooth-as-silk and sturdy glide rack.

An excellent choice for those with plenty to spend and little cooking experience, this oven can insulate neophytes from cooking mistakes. Those who prefer to take control in the kitchen will find that in spite of the excellent design and performance, it's hard to justify the high price of Dacor's MOV130.

Pros: Most advanced controls of any oven, smooth and sturdy glide-rack, halogen lighting, multiple cooking modes
Cons: Sophisticated controls take over the cooking from the cook
