Cuisinart Two to Go Coffeemaker TTG-500

Date Published: 10/25/07

Cuisinart's Two to Go CoffeemakerTTG-500 is a compact appliance that is a cinch to use. It consists of a 13-inch tall black base with an internal water reservoir, flip-up lid, removable filter basket and two brushed stainless steel travel mugs with insulated slip-free grips. The unit has an approximately 8.5X7-inch footprint that takes up minimal counter space.

This basic-function coffeemaker brews one or two tall cups of hot, flavorful coffee directly into its own 14-ounce stainless steel insulted travel mugs. It brews two servings of piping hot (170-degree Fahrenheit) coffee in about 8 minutes (one serving takes about 6 minutes). The coffee continues to drip for another minute or so after brewing is completed, so you need to leave at least one of the mugs in position during that time.

A single "On" switch activates the brewing. A power light glows while the unit is in brew mode and goes off when the brewing has finished. The base has molded impressions to align the mugs under the brew head.

At first, we were unsure whether we liked the design of the mugs, since they feature no handle. After using this machine, however, we found the lack of a handle didn't bother us, and, in fact, the rubberized grip proved quite comfortable to hold. We also like the fact that you can pick up the mug from any direction. Drinking through the tight-fitting lid is smooth, with no spills or dripping. We also like that the base of the mugs is rubberized to keep it from shifting in your car's cup holder.

Lifting the unit's lid gives access to the filter basket and internal water reservoir. This machine uses #2 cone-shaped paper filters. The filter basket has a swinging handle and lifts out for easy cleaning. There are internal markings that show how much water to add for one or two servings.

The only feature that the TTG-500 is missing is an automatic clock/timer. Still, it offers relatively fast brewing and can be set while you are going about your morning routine. You can put your cream and sugar in the mug before brewing and then grab the mug as you are heading out the door.

Pros: Compact, brews directly into one or two 14-ounce stainless steel travel mugs
Cons: None
