Cuisinart Pro Classic Food Processor DLC-10S
Date Published: 4/18/07
The Cuisinart Pro Classic Food Processor DLC-10S is a Cuisinart standard, with the familiar three-position control switch, rectangular base and 7-cup tinted work bowl.
The base is 7 inches wide by 11-3/10 inches deep, including allowances for the rear cord and front control switch. When fully assembled, the processor stands 13-4/5 inches tall.
Standard equipment for this machine includes the 600-watt power base, work bowl with cover, expanded feed tube and food pusher, a compact cover with a small opening for add-ins, during chopping and mixing, stainless-steel chopping blade, medium slicing disk and shredding disk, plastic dough blade, plastic spatula and How-to video demonstrating Cuisinart's techniques, hints and tips for using the food processor.
We found the expanded feed tube assembly a bit complicated at first but easy to master with practice. The extra-large oval tube is 4.5 inches by 2.75 inches and, although it is not big enough for extra-large vegetables such as Beefsteak tomatoes, it can handle small-medium produce, such as red potatoes, plum tomatoes, cucumbers and other items, without the need to have them first sliced in half. There is also a smaller inner food chute with pusher, for slicing long, thin produce. The feed chute's only limitation is the height, since foods must fit completely within the 3-inch tube. A plastic clip on the pusher has to lock in position with the cover before the motor will engage. We were not crazy about this design since it added an extra step each time you lift and insert the food pusher. Even so, we understood the need for the added safety mechanism.
For chopping, blending, mixing and pureeing, the Cuisinart Pro Classic is a champ. The serrated-edge blade cuts clearly through hard and soft items with ease. For evenly chopped foods, we found a pulse-like motion delivered perfectly chopped onions, cracker and bread crumbs and more. Foods are processed in seconds.
We loved the three-position switch, which was extremely easy to use. The "on" position provides continuous processing while the pulse option provides short bursts of power. Each works well with its own particular tasks. We found that letting the foods settle during chopping and mincing provided even results in less time.
We liked the size of the work bowl, which was not so big that small tasks became impossible but not so small that large tasks couldn't be handled. You can mix up to 2 pounds of bread dough, a standard 18-ounce cake mix, about 2 cups of raw or pureed vegetables, or chopped meat or nuts.
For the price, the Cuisinart Pro Classic is an exceptional deal.
Pros: Quiet and efficient motor, expanded feed tube
