Cub Cadet CC-500 Gasoline-Powered Push Mower
Date Published: 7/30/08
If you're looking for one of the best mulching decks in an inexpensive mower, the Cub Cadet CC-500 gasoline-powered push mower is equipped with the CycloCut Cutting System for superior mulching performance. The cutting system features a deep dome deck and high-lift blade engineered to create a cyclone effect that suspends grass clippings for repeated cutting. And the system keeps the grass suspended toward the outer edge of the blade, which is where the majority of cutting occurs. We were impressed by the very tight tolerance between the edge of the blade and deck -- less than 1/4 inch. A tighter tolerance helps create better vortex. There is also less likelihood that the mower will pick up gravel or that wet grass clippings will get caught in the open space between the blade edge and deck.
The cutting system combined with the premium power of the new 173cc Cub Cadet OHV engine delivers high performance for the ultimate in mulching. Additionally, this 3-in-1 mower is fully equipped for all three cutting modes so it can mulch, bag or side discharge grass clippings with ease. Changing between cutting modes is quick and easy as is emptying and replacing the bag. At 1.9 bushels, the large-capacity grass bag has more space to hold more clippings so you can empty the bag less often. On the flipside, the extra space adds extra weight when full and can make it a bit more challenging to push the mower when using the bagging mode. But then, that just means you're getting a more effective workout. Another premium feature we like is the overhead valve engine, which is an unexpected bonus for a mower at this price point. An overhead valve engine runs smoother, cleaner and is typically quieter than a standard side-valve engine. It's also more fuel efficient and delivers more amount of torque with less room compared to a side-valve engine with the same amount of cc's.
Ball bearing wheels made of premium, industrial treaded rubber make the Cub Cadet CC-500 easy to roll, especially when compared with a similar mower with bushing wheels. As a result this machine is also easier to maneuver -- a feature that is especially appreciated in a push mower. We were thrilled to find such a deluxe feature as the single lever height adjustment on an inexpensive mower. Instead of adjusting each wheel individually, you only need to move one lever to adjust all four wheels to any of six positions within a 1 to 3.5 inch cutting height range. Ergonomic, Gull Wing handles fold for space-saving storage.
When it comes to superior mulching, maximum performance and durability, the Cub Cadet CC-500 gasoline-powered push mower is a premium performer for the cost-conscience consumer. (Note: thisd model is not available in California.)
