Cub Cadet CC-989 self-propelled mower

For an inexpensive variable-speed mower with deluxe features, the Cub Cadet CC-989 self-propelled gas mower truly delivers. The key selling features of this model include a Honda GVC 160 OHC engine, Cub Cadet's enhanced cutting system, 3-in-1 operation and a variable-speed rear-wheel drive system for maximum performance and durability. As an added bonus, this mower is also outfitted with ball-bearing support on the rear wheels and 7-inch front caster wheels for better maneuverability and less strain on the user while mowing.
The Honda overhead cam engine delivers high performance for superior mulching and a cleaner, quieter, more efficient and smoother operation as opposed to a standard side valve engine. Combined with lower emission levels, that translates to less gas, less noise, less pollution and less vibration on hands. The mower also offers Auto Return Choke System (ARCS), a feature that prevents over-choking and ensures reliable starting of a cold engine. All you have to do is set the lever to the choke position, start the engine and the choke will automatically open as the engine warms up.
The engine powers both the rear wheels and a variable-speed drive system that engages when you squeeze a lever. Variable speeds offer more versatility than mowers with a single speed setting. That way you can choose the speed that best suits your walking pace and mowing conditions. And since the power also goes to the ball-bearing supported rear wheels, this machine tops front wheel drive mowers when it comes to better traction and easier rolling, especially when mowing over hilly or uneven terrain. Other features we like include the deluxe bail (a wide plastic cover on the bail control rod), which makes it more comfortable to hold in position. This model has a six-position (1 to 3 1/2 inches) individual cutting height adjustments on the front wheels and a single lever height adjustment that operates both back wheels.
The CycloCut System features 3-in-1 performance for the precision cut you need to maintain an attractive, healthy lawn. Mulching is maximized due to the combination of the high-lift blade and 21-inch deep dome deck, creating a cyclone effect that keeps grass clippings suspended for repeated cutting. We also found a very tight tolerance (less than 1/4 inch) between the edge of the cutting blade and deck. That tight of a tolerance enhances cutting performance by creating a better vortex. The 2.3-bushel grass bag has more space so you can bag more clippings and empty the bag less often. We also like that the rear-mounted bag is easy to remove, empty and reattach. Converting between cutting operations is simple, whether switching from mulching to bagging to side discharging.
When durability and power are needed to handle tall, thick grass or rough terrain, you'll appreciate the performance and premium features found in the Cub Cadet CC-989 self-propelled gas mower.
