Cub Cadet CC-500 BAT electric mower

Date Published: 3/24/08

If you're looking for a precision cut from a mower that's easy on the environment and easy on you, be sure to check out the Cub Cadet CC-500 BAT cordless electric model. This well-built mulching machine is a quieter, cleaner and lower-maintenance alternative to gas-powered lawn mowers. Just think -- no more costly gas to buy or messy oil changes. And unlike corded electric mowers that limit your mowing range, the cordless advantage allows you free range to go and mow where corded models can't.

The CycloCut cutting system features a 3-in-1 steel deck and a high-lift cutting blade. The deck has a high rise above the blade, which is engineered with an upward curving slope from front to back at the tips. When combined, the action of both the deck and blade create a cyclone effect that suspends grass for repeated cutting. The better the vacuum or cyclone effect that's created, the more often clippings are cut and re-cut to produce finer mulch. This mulch disappears into the grass and is quick to decompose its valuable nutrients into the soil.

A 48-volt battery supplies this unit's cutting power. Lack of cutting power has been an issue with cordless electric mowers in the past, but today's models can often go head-to-head with gas-powered units in terms of power. This unit's 48-volt battery is designed to provide more cutting power and sustain a long life, all while doing minimal damage to the environment.

Another premium feature that is sure to impress is the ball bearing wheels with industrial-tread tires. We find that mowers equipped with ball bearing wheels tend to be easier to roll and maneuver, and the CC-500 BAT is no exception; this is a feature that really makes a difference in any push-type mower. We also like the convenience of the single-lever height adjuster -- you won't need to go around to each wheel in order to adjust the cutting height; instead, you move just one lever to adjust all four wheels at the same time. Cutting height can be adjusted to one of seven positions within a 1- to 3.5-inch range for a height of cut that can quickly be customized to meet the needs of your lawn. Rounding out the package are ergonomic handles, an extra-bright LED battery meter and a lockout key to prevent accidental start-ups.

If you're looking for a cordless electric mower with cutting power and features that impress, consider the affordable battery-powered Cub Cadet CC-500 BAT.

Pros: Eco-friendly, quiet, easy to use, low-maintenance, 3-in-1 operation, steel deck, well-designed cutting system, 48-volt battery power, long battery life, ball bearing wheels, single-lever height adjuster, ergonomic design
Cons: Doesn't bag as well as a gas-powered mower
