The Creative WebCam Instant - Skype Edition takes instant messaging to a new level. This model combines the easy-to-use features of a webcam with Skype, one of the most popular internet telephony programs.

One of the advantages this bundle has over some other webcams is its audio quality. The package includes a Skype-certified headset with an integrated microphone that delivers good to very good audio. Sound is generally crystal clear, and it's easy to hear and understand the other party. The package also includes a hands-free lapel microphone.

The WebCam Instant is simple to set up. The bundled CD includes all necessary drivers and software, and the USB connection supports both USB 1.1 and 2.0. The camera has a three-legged base designed to fit thin-panel displays, laptops and notebooks. You can also rest it on a flat surface, such as the top of a CRT or on a desk, or even hold it in your hand, although this is awkward.

The WebCam Instant can capture live video at up to 30 frames per second at a resolution of 352X288, which is less than the typical 640X480. Image quality is still relatively good, although it suffers at larger sizes, such as when using a larger chat window. The WebCam Instant can capture still images at up to 640X480 (software enhanced), which is acceptable for pictures that you will share via e-mail or a website. However, they are generally too grainy for printing.

The package includes a voucher for 30 free SkypeOut minutes. In addition to working with Skype, the WebCam Instant is also compatible with AIM, MSN Messenger, Windows Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and most other popular instant messaging services.

The WebCam Instant - Skype Edition comes bundled with several software programs. Creative WebCam Center lets you use the WebCam Instant for remote monitoring or motion detection tasks, as well as time-lapse video captures. Creative Advanced Video FX adds special effects to video chats, and Creative Photo Manager makes editing and organizing your digital photos a snap. SightSpeed greatly simplifies turning your computer into a video phone.

If you don't mind the lower resolution, the WebCam Instant - Skype Edition is an excellent way to take advantage of all the benefits Skype has to offer.
