Creative Labs I-Trigue 3300 multimedia speakers
Date Published: 6/27/05
At first glance, the Creative Labs I-Trigue 3300 appears to be a typical 2.1 speaker system consisting of a subwoofer and two small satellites. These systems are so common that when a new one is introduced, it needs to offer something special to make it stand out from the crowd. The I-Trigue 3300 does this in spades.
This system distinguishes itself in two very distinct categories: appearance and performance. The compact satellites are made of die-cast alloy that really looks sharp. Although subwoofers usually get tucked away under a table, this cube-shape model demands to be seen. In addition, the subwoofer houses the system's amplifier and connection points. The I-Trigue 3300 includes a wired remote that provides volume controls, bass adjustment, and a headphone jack.
Each satellite contains three titanium microdrivers in a single-line array, designed to accurately reproduce the mids and highs. The satellites connect via a wired cable ending in an RCA connector, and the generous cable length will let the satellites be placed at ideal locations on your desktop. The subwoofer produces the low-end response with a 6-1/2-inch long-throw woofer in a ported enclosure. You can use the wired remote to turn off the system, a nice touch that is often overlooked.
The key is the satellites, which deliver clean sound with little if any frequency falloff at the high end. Midrange frequency reproduction is good, although there is a slightly noticeable loss at the bottom of the range. This is most likely the crossover point to the sub, and it might be too high for the sub to adequately cover the gap. The sub performs well for such a small enclosure. It delivers good, deep bass, but don't expect the floor to vibrate at high levels.
Sound reproduction of the Creative Labs I-Trigue 3300 multimedia speakers is generally very good, but it is not powerful. It won't blow the doors off the room, so if that's the kind of computer speakers you want, you should look at much larger systems. The I-Trigue 3300 is geared toward multimedia use as well as adequate music reproduction. For this niche, the speakers perform very well and could even be considered overachievers.
Pros: Crisp satellite performance provides clear reproduction of the high end, wired remote
Cons: Lacks deep bass, weak at the bass/midrange crossover point
