Craftsman 17762 wet-dry vacuum

Date Published: 4/22/08

One of the most popular wet-dry vacuums today is the Craftsman 17762. It has most of the features that households want in a value-priced cleanup tool.

The Craftsman 17762 gets its suction power from a 12-amp motor (6.5 peak hp) and a well-sealed 20-gallon tank. Air velocity is rated at 175 mph, which is about 20 percent more velocity than what smaller models produce. When empty, the 17762 weighs 27 pounds and can be lifted using two handles or rolled on four polypropylene rollers. When full of debris or water, you may want help taking it up or down stairs. The 20-foot cord is stored in a cord-wrap around the case.

The dust hose is 7 feet long, which is standard length for wet-dry vacs, and has two rigid extensions. To minimize clogging, the diameter of the hose is 2-1/2 inches. The hose has a patented locking feature that helps keep good suction by reducing leaks. Four nozzles -- blower, car, squeegee and utility -- come standard with the Craftsman 17762. A cartridge filter helps protect the motor from damaging debris -- and helps keep the dust down when vacuuming. The change-out from dry to wet vacuuming is relatively easy and the manual's instructions are clear.

If you need more than just a basic shop vacuum, consider this model. It has lots of suction power, is solidly built and includes most of the attachments that you will want. And the price is very competitive with similar models from other manufacturers. We definitely like the performance of the Craftsman 17762.

Pros: Strong suction motor, numerous attachments
Cons: Heavy (especially when full of water)

Warranty
1 year, limited
