The Coronado Personal Solar Telescope (PST) is a rare affordable entry into the solar telescope class. Solar telescopes are specialized scopes that allow safe viewing of the sun in better detail than afforded by general-purpose scopes (which are optimized for night time viewing only) equipped with glass or Mylar white light solar filters. However, such scopes were formerly unavailable to most amateurs, costing thousands. At $499, the PST brings the luxury of solar scope viewing into most viewers' price range. In addition to an attractive price, the build quality of the PST is excellent; it constructed from milled aluminum. The PST comes with and integrated Hydrogen alpha solar filter allowing viewer to see not only sun spots, but also such solar phenomena as flares, filaments, and prominences. Included with the PST is a 20mm Kellner eyepiece, an internal modified Coronado Sol Ranger Sun Finder to make it easy to center the Sun's image in the eyepiece, and a re-usable box with dye cut foam for safe storage. A tripod is not included with the scope; however a 1/4-inch, 20 thread tripod adapter socket is built into the base of PST to allow mounting. Several add-ons specifically designed for the PST are available from Coronado, including a hard carrying case, MALTA tabletop mount, and other eyepieces. This scope is carries a 5-year warranty.
