Coby MP-C840 MP3 player
Date Published: 1/7/08
The Coby MP-C840 is a tiny MP3 player designed for ease of use.
The MP-C840 sports a USB port that plugs directly into a PC or Mac, and a cable is supplied for when space limitations prevent such a connection. When using Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Mac OS X, there isn't even a need for extra software, as music files and folders are simply dragged and dropped. In fact, any type of data file can be stored on the MP-C840, giving this MP3 player double-duty as a portable data storage device.
The only problem with the MP-C840 is its low memory. With only 128MB of non-expandable internal Flash memory, some music fans might steer toward larger-capacity players, although the MP-C840 has some other features that offset the memory shortage.
In addition to music playback, the MP-C840 can record up to 8 hours from the built-in microphone. Although this is a tiny player, the LCD displays artist name, song title, and album name. Four digital equalizer presets optimized for classical, rock, jazz, and pop quickly adjust the playback audio, which sounds adequate through the included neckband-styled headphones.
The MP-C840 can even be updated via the USB when new technologies become available. It uses a single AAA battery.
While the storage capacity limits its usefulness, the MP-C840 is a handy way to transport music files and a whole lot more.
