Capresso H20 PLUS Glass Water Kettle 259
Date Published: 10/18/06
The Capresso H20 PLUS has a bit of a space-age design with a clear glass kettle that looks like it's floating on a pedestal base. This unit advertises that it is "faster, safer and more efficient than any stovetop kettle." While we agreed that it is indeed fast and efficient (it took about 6 minutes to boil a full pot of water), we felt it a bit of a stretch calling it "safer" than any stovetop kettle. We will say, however, that the unit is beautifully designed in clear glass with silver and black trim and it does have a number of features, such as its cool-touch handle and auto shutoff, which indeed enhance safe operation of this kettle.
We also liked the unit's cleverly concealed heating element, which appears to be part of the design: a stainless dome rests at the base of the glass kettle and gently but efficiently heats the surrounding water. The unit is fast, efficient and virtually silent during operation. The only indication that it is working is the blue power light on the handle and the steadily rising bubbles surrounding the domed heating element.
When a full, rolling boil is reached, the unit shuts itself off. The kettle is made from German "SCHOTT" glass, which is heat-resistant, and has a textured black Phenolic plastic bottom. While heating, the kettle sits atop a flat disk power base. For serving, the kettle lifts off its base, free from dangling cords. The kettle can be positioned on the base from virtually any angle, thus it is suitable for both right- and left-handed users.
