Canton has long been a leader in loudspeaker design, and the AS 850 SC subwoofer, a member of Canton's recently released Vento line, builds on the success of the famous Ergo series. The Vento AS 850 SC bass reflex subwoofer is a good example of an ultra-high-end subwoofer that delivers superb bass. The price is very steep, but in this case, you certainly get what you pay for.

The Vento AS 850 SC uses a 12-inch AW-310 aluminum cone driver, the largest aluminum cone speaker in Canton's history. It offers a lower weight and improved stiffness, producing less distortion than previous composite cone subs. The AS 850 SC also offers an improved spider assembly for larger cone excursion. A 350-watt digital amplifier provides the power. Compared to previous Canton subwoofers, the Vento AS 850 SC produces up to 9dB more deep bass response.

The curved monocoque structure cabinet, which is shaped to avoid parallel internal surfaces, uses six layers of specialized pressure-laminated fiberboard. A base plate with integrated shock absorbers decouples the subwoofer from the floor and decreases any unwanted transfers of energy. The Room Compensation control uses a three-position switch that can decrease standing waves in the deep bass region. The Vento AS 850 SC also allows variable crossover settings (45Hz to 200Hz), level control, and switchable phase. Infrasonic frequencies below the audible frequency range are removed with a high-pass filter.

The AS 850 SC cabinet is available in silver lacquer, as well as cherry and maple veneers, and it is magnetically shielded for placement near a television. The Vento AS 850 SC will provide mind-blowing bass reproduction and is suitable in any top-end home theater system.
