The Canton Ergo series, which includes the powerful AS 650 SC bass reflex subwoofer, has been redesigned to offer top-notch audio quality, albeit at a top-notch price tag. However, if you can afford it, the AS 650 SC will deliver a bass performance unlike anything you've ever heard.

The AS 650 SC uses a 12-inch high-excursion driver with an aluminum cone, the first time Canton has utilized aluminum in a subwoofer driver. Improved suspension, motor, and surround components provide extended excursion capability and hence a more powerful bass output. To drive that bass, the AS 650 SC sports a 350-watt digital amplifier. The result is a bass output increase of up to 9dB compared to previous models. In addition, the low-frequency extension is lower than before. The crossover is adjustable from 45Hz to 200Hz, bass levels are adjustable, the phase is switchable, and the driver is magnetically shielded to prevent distortion in conventional televisions.

The cabinets are available in silver lacquer, as well as beech, black ash and cherry veneer. Grills are available in silver or black, depending on the finish. The AS 650 SC is an excellent powered subwoofer, with the pedigree of the famous Ergo line, newly improved for even better bass performance. It would be a good choice in a high-end home theater system, especially when accompanied by other satellite speakers in the Ergo line.
