Canon DC20 DVD camcorder

Date Published: 2/12/08

The DC20 is a member of Canon's first-ever line of DVD camcorders. The DC20 records video and stills directly to compact DVD, either write-once DVD-R or rewriteable DVD-RW. The unit features a 1/3.9-inch, 2.2-megapixel CCD that delivers 1.23 effective megapixels for video and 2 effective megapixels for stills. The optical suite on the DC20 also includes a 10X optical/200X digital zoom capability. In well-lit situations outside, the DC20 delivers pleasing video footage. The performance from this DV camcorder in lower-light conditions, especially inside, is less effective, although the DC20 does feature a built-in video light to help counter this.

The DC20 is a stylish camcorder, with an eye-catching aluminum finish. It is also extremely compact and lightweight. The unit will easily slip into a coat pocket or purse, and its sturdy, high-quality construction means you'll be secure in carrying this DV camcorder just about anywhere. The DC20 is very comfortable to handle for anyone with average-size hands, which is not always the case with such a compact camcorder.

In addition to capturing digital stills to disc, the DC20 has a memory card slot for saving stills to miniSD card. The PictBridge function enables you to print stills directly from the camcorder to a compatible printer with just the touch of a button. Alternately, you can connect the DC20 to a PC via the camcorder's USB 2.0 port and transfer stills and video for editing, printing, or posting to the internet. The DC20 can even be used as an external DVD burner, enabling you to make copies of non-copyright-protected DVD content.

The battery on the DC20 is neatly hidden away behind the LCD monitor and offers about 80 minutes of continuous use (at the LP speed) between charges. The lack of manual options on the DC20 make this DV camcorder better suited to point-and-shoot home-movie makers rather than serious videographers.
