Canon DC10 DVD camcorder
Date Published: 7/9/08
The slender and attractive DC10 is an entry-level model in Canon's first line of DVD camcorders. The aluminum finish adds style points to the DC10, and the compact and lightweight design make it an extremely portable digital camcorder. Despite the diminutive size, the DC10 handles extremely well. It sits comfortably in an average-size hand, and the logical position of the controls makes it easy to operate.
The DC10 records video and stills directly to 3-inch discs, either write-once DVD-R or rewriteable DVD-RW. This unit features a slightly smaller imager than the DC20, the next model up in the line. The DC10's 1/4-inch CCD delivers 690,000 effective pixels for video and 1.23 effective megapixels for stills. The optical suite on this digital camcorder also includes a 10X optical/200X digital zoom capability.
The DC10 produces excellent recordings in good lighting conditions. Video images display great sharpness and accurate, if not overly vibrant, colors. The low-light performance is less impressive, although the DC10 offers a lower lux rating than the next model up in the series.
The DC10 can capture digital stills and save them to DVD or miniSD memory card at a maximum picture resolution of 1,280X960. Canon's PictBridge function enables you to print stills directly from the camcorder to a compatible printer with the touch of a button. The DC10 also includes a USB 2.0 port so you can quickly transfer stills and video to a PC for editing, printing, or posting to the web. Like the DC20, the DC10 lacks a great deal of manual options. As with most DVD camcorders, the DC10 is aimed at point-and-shoot enthusiasts looking for convenience, portability, and ease of use.Warranty
